About Tamara de Jong

Born in Oslo, Norway, I was immersed in the principles of modern and natural design from the very beginning. The Scandinavian design philosophy of pairing natural elements with clean, simple lines shaped my way of thinking. Beauty, when expressed through pure form, shape, and color, becomes a testament to true quality without the need for overcomplication. From the age of five, I called South Africa my home, and I'm proudly South African. Growing up in a house filled with art, thanks to my father, Ernst de Jong—a renowned artist and graphic designer—I developed an early love for design. His influence taught me that design is a beautiful balance of function and form. With my mother’s diplomatic background, I was also exposed to diverse cultures, which broadened my global perspective on creativity.  I began my journey into graphic design at the Ernst de Jong Academy of Fine Art, located within our home. There, I designed my first logos and corporate identities, including the National Emblem of South African Showjumping. These early experiences sparked a lifelong passion for branding and crafting visual identities. My father, Ernst de Jong, was a celebrated artist and graphic designer. His legacy includes logos for brands like Grinaker, Mercedes (1962 Refinement), The World Gold Council, The South African Mint, Cobra Taps, Five Roses Tea, and Vinolia Soaps. He also served as Design Director for South African Bank Notes released in 1992 and designed the second definitive series of RSA postage stamps. Many of South Africa’s leading artists—Alexis Preller, Robert Hodgins, Irmin Henkel, Zakkie Eloff, Marie Vermeulen-Breedt, Greta Gruno, Carol Aslin and Eduardo Villa, to name a few—were influenced or mentored by him. He held over 50 major fine art exhibitions in his lifetime and his work was notably selected for the 1972 Venice Biennale. So... life by design became second nature to me. While pursuing my LLB Law degree—more of an ‘enabler’ than a career path—I balanced my studies with competitive show jumping. Having ridden horses since I was four, I’ve always aspired to make it to the big time (and I’m still trying!). After my father’s passing in 2016 and the closure of the Academy, I shifted to freelancing full-time. Freelancing had always been a part of my life, as I was the go-to person among friends for creative projects, which were from the get-go paid gigs. Harrogate Civil Construction became one of my key clients, deepening my appreciation for brand storytelling through design, press, and event activation. Between 2016 and 2018, I worked between South Africa and London, before moving to the UK permanently. I also pursued a Master's in International Luxury Marketing at Oxford Brookes University, where I served as Head of Business Development for Oxford Brookes Racing, a successful Formula Student Race Team (we're in motorsport valley). I was also Head of Marketing for The Oxford Collection, a prestigious portfolio of seven five-star hospitality brands including the five-star Old Bank and Old Parsonage hotels and Gees Restaurant. Now based in Oxford I and The Lucky Moon support clients worldwide. My journey has taken me across London, Germany, Belgium, and the United States, blending art, design, horses, law, and the diplomatic influences of my upbringing. I’m passionate about creating meaningful brand experiences that bring together creativity and strategy. If you'd like to learn more about my story, I'd love to connect.
